The lowdown

Kick up from a lunge and balance straight upside down on your hands, then step down the way you went up. It sits inside almost every harder floor trick.

Fun fact

Some version of a handstand is performed on every gymnastics apparatus, and many tumbling moves pass through one.

Tips

Take a long lunge step and lift your back leg as your hands go down, not after. Hold tight with your head in, legs squeezed and arms by your ears, then come down into a lunge.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Short step and a hard kick. Take a long lunge so the kick does not throw you over.

  2. Shoulders closing and head tucking in. Keep arms by your ears and push up tall through your shoulders.

  3. Arching your back or bending your legs. Squeeze your core and legs into one straight line.

  4. Falling out instead of stepping down. Come down on the same leg you kicked with, into a lunge.

Why it's Silver: Now there is no wall, so you must balance, not just get up. A short step or a loose middle tips you straight over.
