The lowdown

Crouch with your hands on the floor, then jump your feet up behind you so your weight is on your hands for a moment, and land back softly. It is your first taste of going onto your hands.

Fun fact

Coaches use it as the first step towards the handstand, and a static version is how gymnasts start handstands on the beam.

Tips

Keep your arms straight and your shoulders strong over your hands. Try to lift your hips high, with your knees drawn up level with them.

Why it isn't working3 common mistakes

  1. Feet barely leaving the floor. Jump your bent knees up until they are level with your hips.

  2. Hips staying low. Push through strong shoulders and aim your hips at the ceiling.

  3. Arms bending or shoulders collapsing forward. Place hands half an arm from your feet and keep elbows locked.

Why it's Bronze: It is in the very first level of the syllabus. You only take your weight on your hands for a moment and never go fully upside down.
