The lowdown
Lift the front wheel and swing it left, then right, hopping the nose across the ground to build speed without pushing.
It's the first bit of board control most riders learn, and it doubles as a warm-up drill forever after.
Tips
Small swings, quick rhythm. Keep your weight over the back wheel the whole time.
Why it isn't working4 common mistakes
Swinging the nose too wide. Keep each swing short; a small wiggle each side builds speed faster than a big one.
Lifting the front wheel too high. Lift it a finger's width; any more and you stall between swings.
Weight drifting forward. Stay over the back wheel so the front stays light enough to swing.
Looking at the front wheel. Look ahead and let your shoulders start each swing; the wheel follows.

Where to practise
Flat tricks want smooth flat ground. find spots with flat near you →
Where it sits
Why it's Rookie: Nothing sits before it. It is Rookie because both wheels stay near the ground and you can stop any time; the skill is only rhythm and a light front end.
