Tic Tac

Lift the nose and swing it left, then right, over and over.

Difficulty
Rookie
Can you do it?

The lowdown

Lift the nose and swing it left, then right, over and over. Each swing pushes you along, so you build speed without ever putting a foot down.

Fun fact

It is a way of getting moving and a warm-up drill at the same time. Skaters still do it thirty years in.

Tips

Small swings and a quick rhythm. Weight over the back foot, eyes up the path rather than down at the board.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Swinging the nose too far each way. Keep each swing to about a quarter turn so the next one comes quickly.

  2. Pausing between swings. Set the nose down and lift it again straight away, like tapping a foot.

  3. Arms hanging still. Swing your arms with the board; they are what carries the rhythm.

  4. Leaning back behind the tail. Stay stacked over the back truck, not behind it, or the nose lifts too much.

Why it's Rookie: Still Rookie: it is the kick turn repeated, and the board never leaves the ground. What is new is the rhythm, and a missed swing costs you speed, not a fall.
