The lowdown

Lean on the tail until the front wheels lift a few centimetres, swing the nose round to point somewhere new, and set it back down.

Fun fact

It is the first thing that makes a board steer properly, and every 180 you ever do starts from this movement.

Tips

Roll slowly and lift barely at all. Look where you want to go and turn your shoulders. The board follows them.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Lifting the nose too high. Lift the front wheels a finger's width; a high nose tips you off the back.

  2. Turning with the feet only. Turn your head and chest first and let the board catch up.

  3. Front leg stiff and straight. Keep both knees soft so the board can pivot under you.

  4. Standing too tall. Crouch a little; a low body has less to wobble.

Why it's Rookie: Rookie because nothing leaves the ground and you can step off at any point. The whole trick is a small weight shift onto the tail and back again.
