The lowdown

Set the tail on the coping, lean forward over the front truck and ride down the ramp.

Fun fact

It's the single biggest confidence barrier in skateboarding, and it's over in half a second.

Tips

Commit forward. Leaning back is the one thing that guarantees you go down.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Locking your knees straight. Keep both knees soft so your legs can soak up the curve of the ramp.

  2. Throwing the front foot on late. Set the front foot over the bolts first, then tip in with everything already in place.

  3. Standing on the coping thinking. Count to three and go; the longer you stand there the harder it gets.

  4. Learning it on the big ramp alone. Your first drop-ins belong on a small ramp with someone watching who can call for help.

Why it's Easy: Nothing before it asks you to lean into a fall. The first metre is pure commitment: the board is level, the ramp is not, and only your weight over the front truck joins them.
