The lowdown

A half rotation: you and the scooter spin 180° and roll away switch (backwards). Wind your shoulders up, then whip them round and let the deck chase your head.

Fun fact

Land enough of them and 'switch' riding stops feeling alien. Pros drill both frontside and backside until either feels normal.

Tips

Spot your landing over your shoulder and commit fully. A lazy half-spin is how ankles get rolled.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Forcing the spin with the bars. Lead with your eyes and shoulders; the scooter follows your head.

  2. Spotting the landing late. Look over your leading shoulder as you take off so you see the ground early.

  3. Stopping the turn halfway. Commit to the whole half turn; a lazy spin lands you sideways.

  4. Landing with locked knees. Bend as you land so you can ride away fakie without a wobble.

Why it's Easy: A bunny hop with a twist added. Easy because the hop is small, but you must land rolling backwards, so the fakie needs to feel normal before you add the spin.
