The lowdown

Roll straight off the edge of a low kerb and land both sets of wheels without the nose dipping.

Fun fact

It is the first time the board leaves the ground with you on it, and every drop and gap after it starts here.

Tips

Weight over the back foot as you go over the edge, knees soft on landing. A kerb, not a stair set.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Lifting the nose too early. Lift the front wheels just as they reach the edge, not before.

  2. Both feet in the middle. Back foot on the tail and front foot at the bolts, like a kick turn.

  3. Slowing down before the edge. Keep rolling at a steady pace; a crawl lets the nose drop.

  4. Landing on the back wheels first. Shift your weight forward as the tail clears so all four wheels land together.

Why it's Rookie: Rookie because the kerb does the work: you are rolling off something the height of a hand. Nothing pops, and the only timing is a small nose lift at the edge.
