Roll off a curb or a low ledge and land both wheels without the front end diving.

Can you do it?

The lowdown

Roll off a curb or a low ledge and land both wheels without the front end diving. Your first taste of getting the bike off the ground.

Fun fact

Every drop, gap and ledge trick starts here. Get comfortable rolling off small things before you hop onto anything.

Tips

Keep your weight back over the rear tyre as you go over the edge. Start on a curb, not a set of stairs.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Rolling off with your weight forward. Shift your hips back and straighten your arms just before the edge so the front stays light.

  2. Landing on the front wheel first. Let the back wheel touch first or both together; a nose-first landing loads your wrists.

  3. Stiff legs on the landing. Bend your knees and elbows as the wheels touch so they soak up the drop.

  4. Going too fast the first time. Roll to the edge at walking pace until the weight shift feels automatic.

Why it's Rookie: There is nothing before it and the bike does the drop for you. All you are learning is the weight shift back and the soft landing that every hop and grind uses later.
