The lowdown

From a hang on the high bar, pull your chin to the bar and lift your hips up and over it, finishing in front support. Rise calls it a circle up.

Fun fact

Done from a swing instead of a standing start, the same move becomes a long hang pullover, which Rise calls a long circle up.

Tips

Think chin, hips, then shift your wrists on top of the bar. Take off from both feet together rather than stepping into it.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Finishing with bent arms. Push the bar down to a straight-arm front support at the end.

  2. Resting your chin or neck on the bar. Keep pulling while your hips lift, so nothing rests on the bar.

  3. Stepping in off one foot. Take off from both feet at the same time.

  4. Extra hops before the pullover. Set your grip once, then go with one strong kick of the hips.

Why it's Gold: It needs pulling strength and a hip lift at the same time. Most gymnasts build it with leg lifts and assisted pullovers first.
