Bar to Whip

A full bar spin thrown and caught, then a tailwhip…

Difficulty
Gnarly
Can you do it?

The lowdown

A full bar spin thrown and caught, then a tailwhip straight after it, both inside the same jump.

Fun fact

It is the reverse of a whip to bar, and most riders find one of the two much easier than the other.

Tips

You need real height for this. Get the bars round early. Everything after it depends on catching them fast.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Kicking before the bars are caught. Catch the bars fully, then kick; a whip with loose bars goes nowhere.

  2. Bars thrown late in the air. Throw the bars the moment you leave the ground so most of the air is left for the whip.

  3. Feet lifting during the bar spin. Keep both feet planted through the spin; they only move once the bars are back.

  4. Learning it on flat ground. Use a ramp or box; the whip needs air time the bar spin has already used.

What you need

Scooter, helmet, and pads once you're on ramps. Learn this one into foam or resi first

Why it's Gnarly: Each half is a trick you have. A bar to whip needs the bars caught with air still left for a full whip, so the order and timing are new though the moves are not.
