The lowdown

Ollie up and flick the edge of the nose with your toes so the board spins a full barrel roll under you, then catch it with your feet.

Fun fact

Rodney Mullen invented the flat ground version in 1983. Before that a 'flip' meant flipping the board with your hands.

Tips

Ollie first, flick second. Keep your shoulders square and catch it with the back foot before you look for the ground.

Why it isn't working4 common mistakes

  1. Flicking forward off the nose. Flick sideways off the corner of the nose; a forward flick just pushes the board.

  2. Kicking with the whole leg. A quick ankle flick is enough; a leg kick throws the board out.

  3. Front foot stuck to the board. Point the front knee out slightly so the toes can leave the edge.

  4. Leaning back away from the flick. Keep a little weight on the front foot while it flicks.

Why it's Spicy: Spicy because the ollie and the flick have to happen in one movement: the front foot slides for the ollie and flicks off the corner in the same stroke. Flick early and you lose height.
